Ghana Para Athletics Team Embarks on Quest for Commonwealth Games Qualification

The Ghana Para Athletics team has departed for Marrakech, Morocco, to participate in the World Para Athletics 2025 Marrakech Grand Prix, their first official qualification event for the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.

Led by experienced National Para Athletics Coach, Mr. Ibrahim Aminu Suleman, the four-member delegation comprises talented athletes who have demonstrated exceptional skill and dedication.

Paralympian Zinabu Issah, a double gold medallist in the Women’s F57 Shot Put and Discus Throw at the WPA 2024 Marrakech Grand Prix, will lead the charge. Edmund Govina, who has competed in both the 2024 Marrakech and Paris Grand Prix events in the Men’s T31 Shot Put and Discus Throw categories, will also represent Ghana.

Gilbert Ampiah, a promising high jumper from St. Augustine’s College, will make his debut at a global para-athletics competition and undergo international classification in Morocco.

The team has undergone extensive training at the University of Ghana’s athletics warm-up field and will continue preparations in Marrakech ahead of the competition. Mr. Ignatius Elletey, Executive Member of Ghana Para Athletics, gave a rousing send-off, encouraging the athletes to perform at their best and make the nation proud.

The Ghana Para Athletics team’s participation in the World Para Athletics 2025 Marrakech Grand Prix marks an important milestone in their pursuit of Commonwealth Games qualification.

The team’s success will not only bring pride to the nation but also demonstrate Ghana’s commitment to supporting its para-athletes’ development and international representation.
