Ghana Athletics announces Team for CAA Region II Senior Athletics Championship in Ghana

The Ghana Athletics (GA) has released names of 30 athletes to represent the Team Ghana at the upcoming Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II Senior Athletics Championships, scheduled to take place at the University of Ghana Stadium, Legon, from Monday 18th to Tuesday 19th August, 2025.

A press statement released on Thursday, August 14, 2025 announced Team Ghana contingent and will be competing about 15 events including 100m (men and women), 200m (men and women), 400mH (men), 400m (men and women), 4 x 100m (men and women), 4 x400m (men and women), 4x400m mixed relay, 800m (women), Long Jump (men and women)Triple Jump (men), High Jump (men), Javelin (men and women), and Discuss (Men and Women).

Sarfo Ansah of 100m Men will lead the pack of athletes to the University of Ghana (UG) Sports Complex in Legon, Accra, under the technical guidance of Seidu Munkaila and Abdul Wahab Dramani.

In the 100m/200m men, Team Ghana will be represented by Sarfo Ansah, Arthur Kevin Painstsil, Edwin Gadayi and Marizuk Shaibu. For the women in 100m/200m, Team Ghana have Diamond Kusime, Awuni Zeinab, Janet Mensah and Ibrahim Aisha.

In the 400 metres hurdles men, Team Ghana will be represented Baba Mamudu Seidu.

Nasong Naayirima is Ghana’s sole representative in the 400m race.

For the men’s 400m, Diafo Solomon, Acheampong Mordecai, Michael Otuo Acheampong and Philip Tetteh Ojer will represent Ghana.

In 800m, Portia Aboagye and Aloo Sadiq Will represent Team Ghana.

In the field events, Selina Adongo and Gloria Amoah will file in for Long Jump women while Benjamin Baidoo will compete in same Long Jump for the men.

Other male athletes are: Kelvin Adu ( High Jump), Azumah Philemon (Triple Jump), Teye Gabriel (Javelin), and Rexford Bugase ( Discuss)

For women, Ghana will feature Agnes Adjei in Triple Jump, Belinda Owusu in Discuss and Margarette Simpson in Javelin.

 

Team Ghana last year won a total of 25 medals, including 10 gold, 9 silver, and 6 bronze, with Nigeria and Burkina Faso finishing first and third respectively at the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA) Region II Senior Athletics Championships in Ghana.

Ghana’s gold medalists included: Laribat Sakat (Women’s 5000m), Mary Boakye (Women’s 200m), Faustina Owusu (Women’s Discus), Esther Obenewaa (Women’s High Jump), David Nakousi ( Men 1500m), Kennedy Ocansey (Men’s High Jump), Edwin Gadayi (Men’s 100m & 200m), Women’s 4x100m Relay, Men’s 4x400m Relay Team.

The CAA Region II Seniors Athletics Championships will serve as a platform for athletes to achieve qualifying standards for upcoming continental and global competitions, while promoting unity and sporting excellence in the sub-region.
