GFA Congress: Benjamin Asare Rewarded for World Cup Performance as Premier League Clubs Receive GHS1m
Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku has announced a major package of rewards and financial support for Ghana football, including a brand-new JAC Motors vehicle worth $38,000 for Black Stars and Hearts of Oak goalkeeper Benjamin Asare.
Okraku made the announcement on Thursday, August 20, 2026, during the GFA’s 32nd Ordinary Congress held at Prampram.
Asare is set to receive the vehicle after being adjudged the best domestic-based player during Ghana’s camp for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The Hearts of Oak goalkeeper was part of Ghana’s squad for the tournament and played a key role in the team’s campaign, including keeping clean sheets in Ghana’s opening two group matches.
Beyond the individual reward, Okraku announced a significant financial package for clubs in the country’s top flight, with every Ghana Premier League club set to receive GHS 1 million.
The initiative is expected to provide much-needed financial relief to clubs and support their preparations and operations ahead of the new league season.
The GFA President also revealed new commercial partnerships for the Women’s Premier League as part of efforts to strengthen the women’s game.
Gold Fields Ghana will become the headline sponsor of the Women’s Premier League for an initial two-year period, while KFC will serve as the competition’s official meal sponsor.
“I am delighted to announce Goldfields Ghana will be the headline sponsor of the Women’s Premier League and that will last for two years. KFC will become the official meal sponsor of the Women’s Premier League,” Okraku said.
The sponsorship deals are expected to provide increased financial and commercial support for women’s football while enhancing the profile of the competition.
The 32nd Ordinary Congress brought together representatives from Ghana’s Premier League, Division One, Regional and Women’s clubs, alongside members of the GFA Executive Council and other stakeholders.
The announcements formed part of a broader push by the GFA to strengthen domestic football through financial investment, commercial partnerships and recognition of outstanding players.
