Portugal produced one of their best performances of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, crushing Uzbekistan 5-0 in a dominant Group K encounter as Cristiano Ronaldo scored twice and made football history.
The Portuguese captain opened the scoring early before adding a second goal before halftime, becoming the first player ever to score in six different FIFA World Cup tournaments (2006, 2010, 2014, 2018, 2022 and 2026).
Portugal were already 3-0 up at the break after an impressive first-half display, with defender Nuno Mendes also getting on the scoresheet.
The European side continued their dominance after the interval, adding two more goals to complete a comprehensive 5-0 victory in Houston. Uzbekistan struggled to cope with Portugal’s attacking quality and even suffered an own goal as the match turned into a one-sided affair.
The win gives Portugal their first victory of the tournament after drawing with DR Congo in their opening match and puts them firmly in contention for a place in the Round of 32.
For Ronaldo, the night was about more than just the result. At 41 years old, he once again demonstrated his enduring quality on football’s biggest stage, extending his remarkable World Cup legacy and cementing his place in history as the only player to score in six separate World Cup editions.
