The Bukom Boxing Gym and the French Boxing Club Drouias, led by the President of the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF), DSI Bernard Quartey, on Monday, 27th October 2025, paid a courtesy call on the National Sports Authority (NSA) in Accra.
The visit aimed to strengthen relations between Ghana and France in the field of boxing and to discuss future areas of collaboration.
The Director General of the NSA, Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, warmly received the delegation and commended DSI Quartey for his continued dedication to the growth and development of boxing in Ghana. He noted that the visit by the French team had created an opportunity to revive professional boxing in the country, even though the visitors were amateur boxers.
Mr. Ampofo Ankrah encouraged the group to return to Ghana, particularly during the Independence Day celebrations, to experience the nation’s culture and sporting spirit. He also expressed optimism about the possibility of a future Ghana–France sports partnership, which could enhance cultural exchange and promote investment in Ghanaian boxing.
The visiting team from Boxing Club Drouias expressed their admiration for Ghana’s hospitality, stating that they had quickly fallen in love with the country and wished to spend more time adapting to its environment. The team said their goal was to train more amateur boxers from local gyms in France to make the sport more attractive and globally competitive.

They also called for the creation of additional boxing centers across Ghana, beyond the traditional Bukom enclave, to help unearth young talents from other parts of the country.
During their stay, the French delegation visited the Volta Region to explore the country’s scenic and cultural attractions.
DSI Bernard Quartey expressed his gratitude to Mr. Yaw Ampofo Ankrah and the NSA for their warm reception, emphasizing that the Bukom Boxing Gym and the GBF remain committed to promoting and developing boxing across Ghana.
