Ghana’s Benjamin Azamati has qualified for the men’s 100 metres final at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow after another outstanding performance in the semi-finals.
Azamati clocked 10.00 seconds, equalling his season’s best (SB), to secure automatic qualification from Semi-Final 1 and keep Ghana’s hopes of a sprint medal alive.
The Ghanaian sprinter looked composed throughout the race, producing a strong finish to book his place among the finalists in one of the Games’ most anticipated events. His performance continues an impressive campaign in Glasgow and puts him within touching distance of a place on the podium.
Fellow Ghanaian sprinter Abdul Rasheed Saminu also delivered an encouraging performance in Semi-Final 2, crossing the line in 10.06 seconds to finish third. Despite his impressive effort, it was not enough to secure a place in the final.
Although Saminu narrowly missed out, both athletes showcased Ghana’s growing strength in sprinting on the international stage and represented the nation with distinction.
All eyes will now be on Azamati as he lines up in the men’s 100m final, aiming to bring home a medal for Team Ghana at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
