Asante Kotoko Appoint Eric Tinkler as New Head Coach Ahead of 2026/27 Season

Asante Kotoko Sporting Club have officially appointed experienced South African tactician Eric Tinkler as their new head coach ahead of the 2026/27 football season.

The appointment marks a significant step in the Porcupine Warriors’ preparations for the new campaign as the club aims to challenge strongly for domestic honours and make a significant impact in continental football.

Tinkler arrives in Kumasi with a wealth of coaching experience gained across South Africa’s top flight. Before taking up the Kotoko job, he was head coach of Sekhukhune United, where he guided the club in the Premier Soccer League with his disciplined tactical approach and emphasis on attacking football. Over the years, he has also managed several prominent South African clubs, including Cape Town City FC, Maritzburg United, SuperSport United, Chippa United, Orlando Pirates, and AmaZulu FC, establishing himself as one of the region’s most respected coaches.

A former South African international midfielder, Tinkler represented Bafana Bafana and featured at the 1998 FIFA World Cup and the 2000 Africa Cup of Nations before transitioning into coaching.

His appointment signals Kotoko’s determination to build a competitive squad capable of reclaiming the Ghana Premier League title and competing strongly in the 2026/27 CAF Confederation Cup. The club’s management believes Tinkler’s experience, tactical knowledge and ability to develop players will help restore Kotoko’s dominance both domestically and on the African stage.

The Porcupine Warriors have already begun strengthening their squad ahead of the new season, with expectations high among supporters that the new coach will instil a winning mentality and attractive style of football.
