Ako-Adjei Keep Fit Club emerged victorious in the 2023 Mr. Tee Aponkye Cup, defeating Purple Stars 1-0 at the Osu Ako-Adjei Park.
Defender Andrews Welbeck scored the winning goal early in the second half.
The tournament, organized under the theme “Building Ako-Adjei electoral area together through sports,” was supported by Assemblyman Sidney Tetteh Agorvor-Otchie.
A total of 8 teams competed in the tournament.
On their way to the finals, Ako-Adjei Keep Fit Club defeated Mechanics Stars 2-0 and Sunday Stars 4-2 on penalties after a 1-1 draw while Purple Stars beat Nyaniba Stars 1-0 and Kalamazoo Stars 7-6 on penalties.
Ako-Adjei Keep Fit Club received a goat, trophy, medals, football jerseys, a football, street lights, and cash for their victory.
Copson Nii Nortey Okwei (Essien) and Joel Nii Nortey Ashong were named the best player and goalkeeper of the tournament.
All participating teams were given an appearance fee of GHc300 each and bags of water.
Mr. Agorvor-Otchie, who is seeking re-election, highlighted the importance of the tournament in bringing the communities together and fostering healthy competition.
He revealed that in his small way, he has been able to support persons and groups in the community across various sectors, from education to health, initiating electrification projects, helping brilliant but needy persons as well as setting up skilled persons in the community.
“I believe in an all inclusive affair in the transformation and development of our community, and the ignition of the spirit of patriotism more especially in the youth.
For we can only achieve our goals if all members actively play thier roles effectively.”
He emphasised his commitment to supporting various sectors in the community and encouraged the electorate to retain him for another term in the upcoming District Assembly Elections which comes off on Tuesday December 19.
