Accra 2023: Mustapha Ussif inaugurates LOC for African Para Games

The Minister for Youth and Sports, Hon. Mustapha Ussif has duly inaugurated the Local Organizing Committee (LOC) for the first-ever African Para Games Accra 2023 at the North Ridge in Accra.

The Member of Parliament also commissioned the modern secretariat of the African Paralympic Committee (APC)/ National Para Committee- Ghana (NPC) and unveiled the logo for the Games.

 

Hon Mustapha Ussif swore in a ten-member Local Organising Committee (LOC) to steer Ghana’s preparations towards a successful hosting of the games.

The committee is chaired by Chris Boadi- Mensah.

The other members of the committee are the Director of sports for UG, Dr. Bella Bello Bitigu (Director of Sports), Julian Addo-Yobo (Director Legal), Reks Brobbey (Director of Operations), Henry Tachie-Mensa (Services Director), Saddick Adams (Communications), Gifty Afia Oware Aboagye (Director of Marketing) Osman Ali (Director of Finance), Eric Kissi (Member of NPC Ghana) and Mr. Hayat Kaitab (Member of APC).

Hon. Mustapha Ussif said, “I have no doubt that the Chairman and his members of the LOC will do their maximum best to mobilize all the resources required for thenation to successfully host the thousands of athletes, coaches and team officials from all the 55 nations in Africa as well as hundreds of dignitaries and volunteers from the rest of the world in Ghana, as a test event for the 13th African Games in 2024.

Regional Games of this magnitude cannot be successfully planned,
implemented and delivered without the support and collaboration of all stakeholders, institutions, organizations, partners, sponsors,
philanthropist and individuals.

Therefore, I am hereby inviting all and sundry to join the Ministry of Youth and Sports as we seek to make history by delivering a memorable first-ever Africa Para Games in the annals of African Para Sports and the Paralympic Movement in Africa.”

Samson Deen, President of the African Paralympic Committee (APC) and National Paralympic Committee (NPC Ghana) whose initiative and proposal for Ghana to host the event was backed by the President of Ghana HE Nana Akuffo-Addo expressed that the African Para Games, Accra 2023 is aimed at providing African Para Athletes a world class, multi-sport
event on the African soil, which their
“able-bodied” counterparts have
enjoyed since the inception of the All
African Games in 1965.

Ghana is highly privileged to host and organize the First edition of the African Para Games, which is aimed at providing the African Para Athletes the opportunity to experience a world class multi-para sporting event on the African continent, serve as a catalyst for further development and promotion of para-sports in Africa, and increased our athletes qualification opportunities for Paris 2024 Paralympic Games.

Come this September, Ghana will host thousands of athletes and team officials (coaches, administrative and technical personnel) from over Forty-eight (48) National Paralympic Committees (NPCs) across Africa and hundreds of dignitaries including the President of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC), technical officials, media personnel as well as volunteers globally.

We wish to thank H.E. the President of the Republic, the Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports, for the support towards the realization of this goal and the entire Paralympic and Olympic Movements for the solidarity.

The 2023 African Para Games opening ceremony is scheduled for on 3rd September and closing ceremony take place on 12th September, 2023
