The 2026/27 Ghana Premier League (GPL) delivered another weekend of drama as Asante Kotoko and Hearts of Oak suffered their first defeats of the campaign, while FC Samartex climbed to the top of the table after Matchday Four.
The biggest shock of the weekend came at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium, where Aduana FC stunned Asante Kotoko with a 2–0 victory.
Stephen Amankona put Aduana ahead before Seidu Saana sealed the points in stoppage time. The visitors, who played with 10 men for more than 50 minutes, held on for a memorable away victory and handed Kotoko their first loss of the season.
Hearts of Oak also suffered their first defeat after three matches. The Phobians were beaten 1–0 by Karela United in Tamale, with Mohammed Zaidan scoring in the 88th minute to settle a tightly contested encounter.
At the summit, FC Samartex maintained their unbeaten start after drawing 1–1 away to Swedru All Blacks.
The Timber Giants now lead the standings with eight points from four matches, having recorded two wins and two draws.
Six teams are separated by just three points behind the leaders, with Hearts of Oak, Port City FC, Aduana FC, AshantiGold and Bechem United all on seven points.
Medeama finally find their winning touch
Defending champions Medeama SC produced the biggest victory of the weekend, coming from behind to defeat Basake Holy Stars 4–1.
Patrick Ocran gave Holy Stars an early lead, but Medeama responded emphatically with four first-half goals from Prince Owusu, Emmanuel Annor, Kelvin Nkrumah and Kingsley Braye.
The victory was Medeama’s first league win of the campaign.
Newly promoted Port City FC continued their impressive start to life in the top flight with a 2–0 away victory over Bibiani Gold Stars.
FC Ashantigold also claimed a 2–1 win over Debibi United, while Bechem United edged Dreams FC 1–0.
Berekum Chelsea and Vision FC shared the points in a 1–1 draw, while Heart of Lions produced late drama to beat Young Apostles 2–1, with Mustapha Yakubu scoring the decisive goal in the 90th minute.
