CRRA Engages Ghana Police Service to Expand Rugby in Central Region

The Ghana Rugby Football Union’s vision of expanding rugby beyond the traditional sporting environment and into institutions across the country has taken another significant step, with the Central Region Rugby Association (CRRA) engaging the Ghana Police Service to explore opportunities for introducing and developing the sport within the security service.

The engagement, held in the Central Region, brought together key officials from the CRRA and the Ghana Police Service to discuss ways of creating a stronger rugby pathway within the Police Service.

The CRRA delegation was led by Chairman Clement Dennis, who met with Central Regional Police Commander, DCOP Mr. Ohene-Boadi, and Staff Officer, ASP Mr. Patrick Bentum.

Also part of the delegation was Peter Caesar Kwegyir Aggrey, Public Relations Officer of the Central Region Rugby Association, as the association continues its efforts to establish strategic partnerships that can accelerate the growth of rugby across the region.

The discussions focused on opportunities to introduce rugby within the Police Service and use the institution as another platform for talent identification, player development and the promotion of the sport.

According to the CRRA, the initiative is aimed not only at discovering talented athletes but also at using rugby to promote teamwork, discipline, leadership and physical fitness among members of the security service.

The programme is expected to create opportunities for both men and women to participate in rugby and potentially develop their abilities to compete at regional and national levels.

The Central Region initiative forms part of a broader vision to take rugby into institutions and communities across Ghana, creating more avenues for young talents to be identified, nurtured and developed.

For the CRRA, stronger collaboration with the security services could also provide a pathway for talented players to progress from institutional rugby to regional competitions and eventually earn opportunities with Ghana’s national rugby teams, the Eagles.

The engagement therefore represents another important milestone in the association’s efforts to build a broader and more inclusive rugby ecosystem in the Central Region.

With rugby continuing to expand beyond its traditional boundaries, the collaboration between the CRRA and the Ghana Police Service could open new opportunities for the sport while helping develop athletes who can represent the region and Ghana on bigger stages.

The vision remains clear: to take rugby to more institutions, communities and regions while building a bigger, stronger and more inclusive future for Ghana Rugby.

Rugby for everyone. Rugby for Ghana. 🇬🇭🏉
