NSA Boss Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, Board Chairman Dr Fred Awaah Inspect Baba Yara Stadium Ahead of 2026/27 Season

The Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), Yaw Ampofo Ankrah, together with the Board Chairman, Dr Fred Awaah, has inspected the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi as part of efforts to assess the facility’s readiness ahead of the 2026/27 football season.

The inspection, which took place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, focused on ongoing rehabilitation and maintenance works at the iconic stadium and efforts to ensure that the facility meets the required standards to host football and other major sporting activities.

The NSA leadership was accompanied by the Head of Estate, Ebow Adorful. The delegation was received by the NSA Ashanti Regional Director, Nana Gyaama Adarkwah, and her team.

During the working visit, the officials inspected the playing pitch and other sections of the stadium to assess the progress of preparations.

Yaw Ampofo Ankrah commended the Ashanti Regional Directorate for its efforts and initiatives aimed at rehabilitating the pitch and ensuring that it meets the approved standards.

He stressed the importance of the ongoing improvements in maintaining Baba Yara Stadium as a suitable venue for competitive football and major sporting events.

The delegation also toured areas surrounding the stadium, where they engaged hawkers and traders operating around the facility.

The discussions centred largely on concerns surrounding the development of new containers by the Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA). The engagement allowed the NSA leadership to hear directly from traders and better understand their concerns about how the new developments could affect their businesses.

Baba Yara Sports Stadium remains one of Ghana’s most significant sporting venues and has hosted numerous domestic and international football fixtures over the years.

With the 2026/27 football season approaching, ensuring that the playing pitch, stands and surrounding facilities meet the required standards will be crucial for clubs, supporters and other football stakeholders.

The inspection by the NSA leadership highlights the Authority’s renewed focus on facility maintenance, readiness and stakeholder engagement as Ghana prepares for another busy football season.
