Glasgow, Scotland – GCB Bank PLC has reinforced its commitment to the growth and development of Ghanaian sports by announcing a GHS1 million investment into the Ghana Olympic Committee (GOC) and the Commonwealth Games Association (CGA), while also unveiling a long-term partnership aimed at transforming sports development in the country.
The announcement was made during a visit by senior officials of the “Bank for Your Life” to Team Ghana’s camp at the ongoing Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games, where the delegation encouraged athletes and officials ahead of their remaining competitions.
The delegation was led by the bank’s Chief Marketing, Corporate Affairs and Customer Experience Manager, Cynthia Ofori Dwumfuo, and Head of Marketing, Kwadwo Asamoah, who praised Team Ghana’s dedication and resilience while urging the athletes to continue competing with determination and national pride.
Beyond the financial support, GCB Bank outlined its vision to become a strategic partner in Ghana’s sporting ecosystem by providing innovative lease financing and sustainable financial solutions that will enable federations to acquire modern equipment, improve infrastructure and better prepare athletes for international competitions.
The bank stressed that while talent remains the cornerstone of sporting success, sustained excellence can only be achieved through deliberate investment, sound financial planning and strong institutional partnerships.
Speaking during the visit, Cynthia Ofori Dwumfuo said GCB Bank’s investment reflects its broader commitment to national development through sports.
“At GCB Bank, we believe sports has the power to transform lives, unite communities and inspire national pride. As the ‘Bank for Your Life,’ we are committed to partnering with the Ghana Olympic Committee to build a sustainable sporting ecosystem through investment that will enable federations and athletes to access the equipment, infrastructure and resources they need to succeed. Our vision is not only to support Team Ghana in Glasgow but to help create a future where Ghanaian sports consistently competes and wins on the world stage.”
She added that investing in sports today would create long-term social, economic and developmental benefits for future generations.
Responding on behalf of the Ghana Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Association, President Richard Akpokavie welcomed the partnership, describing it as a significant milestone for Ghanaian sports.
This partnership with GCB Bank PLC represents the kind of strategic collaboration that Ghana sports needs to move to the next level. Sports development cannot rely only on passion and talent; it requires investment, innovation and strong institutional partnerships. GCB Bank’s decision to support Team Ghana and explore sustainable financing solutions is a forward-thinking approach that will positively impact athletes, federations and the entire sporting ecosystem,” he said.
Akpokavie noted that the bank’s presence in Glasgow had lifted the morale of Team Ghana and demonstrated the growing role of corporate Ghana in supporting elite sports.
“We are grateful to GCB Bank PLC for believing in the vision of the Ghana Olympic Committee and the Commonwealth Games Association of Ghana. Together, we can create a stronger foundation for athlete development, improve preparation standards and position Ghana to consistently compete and succeed at major international competitions,” he added.
As part of the visit, GCB Bank also congratulated members of Team Ghana who have already won medals at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games and encouraged the remaining athletes to remain focused and determined as they continue their pursuit of podium finishes.
The partnership between GCB Bank PLC and the GOC/CGA is expected to provide long-term support for athlete welfare, sports infrastructure and institutional development, signalling a new era of collaboration between corporate Ghana and the country’s sporting fraternity.
With Team Ghana still chasing more medals in Glasgow, the GHS1 million investment and long-term commitment from GCB Bank are expected to provide a significant boost to the nation’s sporting ambitions, both at the Commonwealth Games and beyond.
