David Oppong Afrane Set to Leave Hearts of Oak After Contract Talks Collapse

Hearts of Oak defender David Oppong Afrane is set to leave the club as a free agent after failing to reach an agreement over a new contract, bringing his three-year stay with the Phobians to an end.

Sources indicate that negotiations between the player and the club have broken down, with both parties unable to agree on terms for a contract extension. As a result, the versatile defender is expected to depart when his current deal expires.

Oppong Afrane joined Hearts of Oak in September 2023 and quickly established himself as a dependable member of the squad. Capable of playing both as a centre-back and in defensive midfield, he earned a reputation for his composure, tactical awareness, and versatility.

In the recently concluded 2025/26 Ghana Premier League season, he featured in 27 league matches and was one of the club’s most consistent performers in defence.

Although he leaves without registering a goal, the 23-year-old played an important role whenever called upon, providing defensive solidity and valuable cover across multiple positions.
