Black Stars defender Marvin Senaya has been ruled out for at least eight weeks after undergoing successful surgery on the hamstring injury he sustained during Ghana’s Round of 32 defeat to Colombia at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
The injury occurred during Ghana’s 1-0 loss to Colombia at the Kansas City Stadium on Friday, July 3, forcing the France-based defender to end his impressive World Cup campaign on a painful note.
Following the match, the Black Stars medical team conducted an MRI scan in Kansas City, which confirmed a significant hamstring injury. The team’s medical staff immediately began managing the injury before Senaya travelled to Paris for surgery.
The operation was successful, and the 24-year-old has since returned to his club, AJ Auxerre, where he will continue his rehabilitation under the supervision of the club’s medical team.
The Ghana Football Association (GFA) says it is working closely with AJ Auxerre to ensure the defender receives the best possible care throughout his recovery process.
Senaya is expected to spend at least eight weeks on the sidelines as he focuses on regaining full fitness.
The leadership of the Ghana Football Association, the Black Stars Management Committee, the technical team, and the playing body have all extended their best wishes to the defender, expressing confidence in his full recovery.
Before the injury, Senaya was one of Ghana’s standout performers at the tournament, featuring in all four of the Black Stars’ matches and playing a key role in the team’s run to the Round of 32 before their exit to Colombia.
