Kotoko coach Maxwell Konadu reveals why they couldn’t pick the three points against Berekum Chelsea

Asante Kotoko Head Coach Maxwell Konadu has revealed that the injury to captain and goalkeeper Felix Annan played a part in his team’s inability to win against Berekum Chelsea.

The two teams faced off in a match week 2 clash at the Golden City Park on Sunday. Kotoko were leading for most parts of the game following an 18th minute goal by striker Kwame Poku.

After a dominant display in the first half, the Porcupine Warriors were pegged back by a renascent Chelsea side after recess but they held on very well until the last few minutes of the encounter when they conceded an equalizer.

A 90th minute injury sustained by goalkeeper Felix Annan forced a change; with Kwame Baah coming on.

According to Maxwell Konadu the substitution disrupted his plan for the game as he had one last tactical change to make before Annan’s injury.

Konadu believes this impacted on the result as Chelsea eventually restored parity courtesy an Emmanuel Clottey strike from a free-kick.

“Of course, we didn’t plan to change our goalkeeper. It was another tactical change we wanted to effect but all of a sudden, Felix fell off and he couldn’t continue. So that really disrupted our game plan,” Maxwell Konadu remarked during a post match interview.

The draw means Kotoko remains without a win after 2 matches in the league. Their next assignment is a trip to Mauritania where they face FC Nouadhibou in the first leg of their CAF Champions League preliminary stage qualifying match.
