Stephen Appiah is the Best Captain I have known- Kwabena Yeboah

The President of Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG), Kwabena Yeboah hailed former Juventus midfielder and Black Stars Skipper, Stephen Appiah as the best captain he has ever known.

Stephen Appiah left a lasting legacy in the annals of the Black Stars by ending their 70 year wait for FIFA World Cup qualificationa for the 2006 edition.

The former Juventus enforcer raised the game on Ghanaian soil with some unique leadership qualities and has since been dubbed as Ghana’s best ever captain in the 21st century.

Speaking at the Betway 12th Man launch held  at Alisa Hotel Accra, Kwabena Yeboah did not mince words in singling Stephen Appiah as the best ever Captain for Black Stars he has ever known.

There is a particular legend who has also retired, I have been in contact with him. I have been around for a while . I watched football for decades. I have have met Captain’s of National  teams for decades but I always stretch the best captain I have met in my entire Journalistic life is Stephen Appiah”, Kwabena Yeboah revealed.

He added, “This is the man during his time always love the players, he served the players with supplications and no wonder during his term, Ghana football was at it peak”.

Stephen Appiah captained Ghana at Ghana first World Cup  in 2006 and also a member of the squad for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.

Appiah has led Ghana to four Africa Cup of Nations and retired from the national team after 2010 World Cup.

The former Juventus midfielder  made his debut for the Black Stars in 1996 managed 17 goals in 68 international games.

Appiah went through the rank of all the national teams and also the longest serving skipper of Ghana after independence having led the Black Stars for a period of 8 years.
