The General Secretary of the Ghana Athletics Association, Mr. Bawah Fuseini has called to attention the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic on athletics.

Speaking on West FM 97.9 FM, the General Securtary said, “As we all know COVID-19 has already affected everything including sporting activities in Ghana and the world at large. Our
association is facing a lot of challenges

COVID-19 has already destroyed our plans, training and even all the sponsorship deals we decided to engage with our partners.

We are now thinking of having a new calendar before the end of the year.

We also thank the government for easing restrictions on non- contact sports so we can have training activities
We are still appealing to the Government for his special package (money).

We became disappointed when the international federation announced that only $500,000 will be granted to each Athlete with some conditions. We have written back to them and they have accepted to respond to us.

Ghana Athletics Association lack quality coaches as well as sponsorship package to make the federation more effective.
We are putting in efforts to get good coaches”, he stated

“Some of our athletes move to Europe because of quality coaches.

Because of economic reasons, an athlete told me he will naturalise for any European country he prefers and I advised him to go.

Economically, most African countries such as Nigeria, Ethiopia, Kenya Athletes move to Europe because of money.

Ghana has already produced great athletes, but we still can’t get another Margaret Simpson and others some right years ago.”
