Sydney, seeded third, continued her impressive form with a remarkable comeback victory over top seed Alisha Ndukwu of Poland, winning 5-7, 6-2, 6-3 in a thrilling semi-final encounter that lasted two hours and 38 minutes.
After dropping the opening set, the American displayed tremendous resilience and composure, raising her level to take control of the contest and secure her place in the final.
The victory keeps Sydney’s title defence on track as she looks to secure back-to-back J100 girls’ singles titles in Accra.
Standing in her way is a determined Kuzivaishe Chapepa, who booked her place in the final after overcoming seventh seed Prisha Nikhil Shinde of India in another gripping three-set battle.
The Zimbabwean fought hard to claim the opening set 7-6(4), before Shinde responded by taking the second set 4-6. Chapepa, however, held her nerve in the deciding set, winning 6-4 to complete an impressive victory and earn her place in the championship match.
The final promises an intriguing contest between Wright’s confidence and momentum as the defending champion and Chapepa’s fighting spirit, with both players eager to crown their impressive campaigns with the J100 Accra title.
