Borteyman Sports Complex Set to Host Ghana Grand Slam 2026 as Africa’s Best Battle for World Ranking and Olympic Qualification Points

Accra is set to become the heartbeat of international badminton as the Ghana Grand Slam 2026 serves off at the Borteyman Sports Complex from August 7 to August 16, bringing together some of the world’s finest players for one of Africa’s biggest badminton events.
The 10-day championship will feature the JE Wilson Future Series and International Series, with elite athletes from 38 countries competing for valuable Badminton World Federation (BWF) World Ranking points and crucial qualification points towards the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games.
The tournament is expected to showcase world-class badminton across men’s singles, women’s singles, doubles and mixed doubles, while reinforcing Ghana’s growing reputation as a premier destination for international sporting events.
The opening day promises exciting contests as Ghanaian stars take centre stage. Ruben Tetteh-Wayoe will face Spain’s Jaime Herrera, while Brempong Ofori-Acheampong takes on Uganda’s Nsubuga Reagan in what are expected to be thrilling encounters before a passionate home crowd.

Leading Ghana’s charge is Francis Obeng Shang, Africa’s highest-ranked men’s singles player, who will be aiming to make home advantage count against a strong international field. He will be joined by multiple national champion Ahmad Abdul-Samad, alongside rising talents Brempong Ofori-Acheampong and Ruben Tetteh-Wayoe as Team Ghana looks to make a strong statement on home soil.
Beyond the medals, the Ghana Grand Slam represents a significant milestone for African badminton.
