Ghana’s first medallist at the 2026 Commonwealth Games, Zinabu Issah, is set to receive a £2,000 special winning bonus from the President of the African Paralympic Committee (APC), Samson Deen, in recognition of her historic achievement in Glasgow.

The cash reward is expected to be presented to the para-athlete on Tuesday following her silver medal-winning performance in the Women’s F57 Shot Put event, where she recorded a season-best throw of 8.65 metres to secure Ghana’s first medal of the Games.

Samson Deen had earlier announced the incentive during a pre-Glasgow meeting with Ghana’s para-athletes and members of the media, reaffirming his commitment to motivating and rewarding excellence among Ghanaian athletes competing on the international stage.

Zinabu’s remarkable performance has brought pride to the nation and highlighted the growing strength of Ghana’s para-sports programme. Her silver medal not only opened Ghana’s account at the Games but also underscored the resilience and determination of the country’s Paralympic athletes.

The special bonus from the APC President serves as recognition of her outstanding achievement and is expected to further inspire Team Ghana as the Commonwealth Games continue in Glasgow.

With the financial reward and national recognition, Zinabu Issah’s success is expected to encourage greater investment and support for para-sports in Ghana, while motivating the next generation of athletes to pursue excellence on the global stage.
