Kofi Adams Calls for Fairness, Inclusion and Data-Driven Sports Development at Commonwealth Ministers Meeting

Ghana’s Minister for Sports and Recreation, Hon. Kofi Adams, has called for a more transparent and equitable sporting system across the Commonwealth to ensure that all member nations, particularly developing countries, have equal access to sporting opportunities and development programmes.

The Minister made the appeal during the 12th Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting held in Glasgow, Scotland, where sports ministers and senior officials from across the Commonwealth gathered to discuss the role of sport in creating healthier, fairer and more inclusive societies.

Addressing the meeting, Hon. Adams stressed that while passion for sport is widespread throughout Commonwealth nations, meaningful progress can only be achieved when that passion is supported by research, evidence and informed policymaking.

He urged member states to embrace data-driven approaches in shaping sports policies, noting that evidence-based decision-making is essential to maximising the social and economic impact of sport.

According to the Minister, using reliable data can help governments improve public health, strengthen communities, promote social inclusion and contribute to sustainable national development through sport.

Hon. Adams also reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to building an inclusive, athlete-centred sporting ecosystem that provides opportunities for everyone, regardless of background. He said the country’s sports development agenda will continue to focus on transparency, inclusivity and evidence-based planning to ensure long-term success.

The Sports Minister further emphasised that collaboration among Commonwealth nations remains crucial in unlocking the full potential of sport as a catalyst for development, peace and social transformation.

The Commonwealth Sports Ministers Meeting serves as an important platform for member countries to exchange ideas, strengthen partnerships and develop policies that use sport as a driver of positive change across the Commonwealth.
