CAA President, CEO Arrive in Accra for Historic African Athletics Championships Agreement

Accra, Ghana — The President of the Confederation of African Athletics (CAA), Mr. Hamad Kalkaba Malboum, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Confederation, Mr. Lamine Fati, have arrived in Accra, Ghana, for the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize Ghana’s hosting of the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships.

The MoU will be signed between the Confederation of African Athletics, Ghana Athletics, and the Government of Ghana, represented by the Ministry of Sports and Recreation. The agreement confirms that the 24th African Senior Athletics Championships will take place from 12th to 17th May, 2026, at the University of Ghana Sports Stadium, Legon, Accra.

Upon their arrival, the CAA President and CEO were warmly received by the President of Ghana Athletics, Mr. Bawah Fuseini, alongside the Chief Executive Officer of Ghana Athletics, Mr. Ahmed Baffoe, and other dignitaries from the Ghana Athletics fraternity.

The upcoming championships are expected to attract elite athletes from across the African continent and will further strengthen Ghana’s position as a capable host of major international sporting events. Hosting the championships also aligns with Ghana’s broader sports development agenda and its commitment to promoting athletics excellence across Africa.

The signing of the MoU marks a significant milestone in preparations for the continental event, as stakeholders work collaboratively to ensure a successful and memorable championship in Accra in 2026.
