MTN FA Cup: Skyy FC show class against Premier side, Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs

Division One side Skyy FC defeated struggling Ebusua Dwarfs by 2-0 at the St Martin’s Park to qualify for the 3rd round of the MTN FA Cup.

This was the first competitive match between the two clubs. In previous two friendly games, Dwarfs beat Skyy fc 1:0 at Daboase in 2018/2019 pre season. In 2020/2021 Pre season friendly, Skyy fc stunned Dwarfs at Siwdu Park in Cape Coast with a 1:0 wonderful performance.

This set a thriller stage for the MTN FA Cup R64 battle at St Martin’s Park, in Daboase on Wednesday 2nd June. Ebenezer Acquah and Emmanuel Assafuah hit the net in the first half and the second half respectively for the outstanding team of the day, Skyy fc to knock out the Premier team Ebusua Dwarfs. There was no dull moment in this match.

In the opening exchanges, Ebusua Dwarfs held possession for a good spell announcing their intention to control the game with maturity. But that was all they could manage in the first half as the Division One side took absolute control of the midfield and dictated play, creating three chances in the first half, but converting only one to end the first session with an advantage.

Ebusua Dwarfs returned from the dressing room with a good response by introducing an attacking winger to replace their Japanese attacker. Two more Dwarfs substitutions saw Dwarfs finding spaces behind Skyy fc midfield and threatening offensively. They tried attacks at the wings but met able defenders in Capt Martin Owusu and Quaigraune. It was obvious the new challenge team Dwarfs attackers had to deal with was how to move pass the resolute three man defense wall of Ebenezer Acquah, Emmanuel Asmah and Emmanuel Assafuah.

Dwarfs attackers resorted to surprise shots from afar. Goal keeper Ohene Nimo had to put up a spectacular save from the only strike that was on target to keep Skyy fc one goal advantage. Dwarfs had four corner spot kick opportunities in a spell but could not connect them. There was no doubt that Dwarfs three strategic substitutions was telling on the game in the first part of the second half. Skyy FC Technical bench led by Coach Malik Mohammed responded by throwing in Teacher Oteng for Isaac Donkor and Ebenezer Adukwaw for striker Ebenezer Mamatha. The pendulum swung back in favour of Skyy fc from then. The second Goal was scored to kill the game for the division one home team, knocking out Mysterious Ebusua Dwarfs from this seasons MTN FA Cup competition.

The Referees had a near perfect game as well selling to the fans a high value memorable match by all standards. Indeed when it comes to MTN FA Cup competition, Obia Nye Obiaa.
